Nepali Fonts in Android: install read and type

1. This is how I installed devnagari scripts (or as some call it: "nepali fonts") in Android.
The tutorial is available here: http://manijshrestha.wordpress.com/2012/01/31/yet-another-way-to-install-nepalidevnagari-font-on-android-devices/ However, this requires root access. If you are not much into playing with the root, stay away! Dangers ahead!

2. A much simpler way to read devnagari scripts in android is to install Opera mini browser.
The setting explained here:
http://ajabgajab.blogspot.com/2010/08/nepali-fonts-for-android-displays-box.html
But then typing.

3. There is also another post by aakartech on installing multiling to type in the devnagari scripts: http://www.tech.aakarpost.com/2012/05/nepali-keyboard-for-android.html

Below I show you the side by side comparison of the first and second methods:
The left is default browser showing nepali news site after installing fonts by method 1.  The right shows the Opera browser after modifications suggested by method 2. The first method clearly beats the second. And if you wanted to type: use the third method.

Aakar already has posted the third method. Since I was confused while I was installing it, let me add little more snapshots just for references.

Four screenshots: allow, enable, long press (400 ms), and type. It is not handy at all to me.

I would rather go back to google's transliterations. Or, type in browser using the method here.

The next app we need in market is roman2nepali keyboard.  Somebody just do it, come on!

#Captivate to get Gingerbread 2.3

Samsung Captivate is getting the updates for android 2.3 Gingerbread.
Back in the days, when I was inside the walls, I was excited when I was able to go from 2.1 to 2.2. A lot of wind has blown since then. I rooted my galaxy S.
I am not going back after having installed the Cyanogenmod 7 into my android?
Thanks, but no thanks!
I heard that it would not be able to handle 2.4. However, CM7 is not bad at all! No bloatwares, better battery life, more control... almost makes me regret why I could not root it sooner!

Re-Flashing Samsung Captivate with Cyanogenmod

This is my second weekend flashing cm7. I am not sure why it went dark yesterday evening all of the sudden.
Few screenshots:
First things first: Install "everything"... More?

Pre-cache map area in Google Maps...

Can we do this?

Thanks Cyanogen(mod)7. Surprisingly the walpaper name is: "Fitsnugly".

Once nice feature of the Google Map: You know where the stuffs are in the HomeDepot.
I hope this feature becomes a norm for stores. No more being lost inside the store.

I am having to reinstall everything into it. I shall backup and restore.

Samsung Captivate: cyanogenmod installed

Problem:
Galaxy S (I) started shutting down randomly [I rambled about it here]. The worst part was that it was out of the 1 year warranty period [link]. I Updated it from 2.1 to 2.2. Did not solve the issue.

Solution:
Well, I first rooted it  [link]. However, I did not install backup.
Well, after little bit of nailbiting excercise, I was able to install cyanogenmod 7.1 into Captivate.
Here are the helpful links:

Taking screenshot is a piece of cake.

Cheers!

Updating Samsung Galaxy S to Froyo

It is shame that my samsung galaxyS has been turning off a lot these days. I had chosen samsung's product instead of iPhone. I might regret that decision.
:(

I have also tried contacting the customer service via email. They suggested simple reset (factory reset //or// battery out reset). It seems that there are problems with the galaxy phones constructed before certain dates [(This post explains some bit of my problem:  link)].

I have now updated the Firmware  from 2.1 to 2.2 Froyo. Lets see if that resolves the problem.

Nepali Fonts for Android displays Box... SOLVED!

In facebook or in nepali blogs, friends post messages in Nepali Dev-nagarik script (unicode?). However, because I do not have the proper fonts they are displayed as boxes...
I looked around for solving the problem. no solutions found yet.
Let me give you the hint: the first result in Google: 24duniya just has the keyword traps without a solution. I wonder if this post will be picked up in search engine query which has no solution listed yet.

Anyone out there who knows the solution?
EDIT:
Kamal replied on the comment with the solution:

Kamal Raj Chapagain said...
For nepali blogs, opening in opera mini browser configuring it with the bitmap font for complex scripts(enabled) works
.
Type about:config in the opera mini addressbar
The last option on that page is bitmap font for complex scripts... enable it
 That's it!

Google's App Inventor for Androids

I have applied for Google's app inventor lab. I hope that they will approve it.
I would love to learn to make apps for my new Androids. I have chosen android OS over iOS or RIM by BB.

Here is the Hello World version of the app: Hellp Purr!
Please feel free to suggest the app developing tools for androids.
