Using Chrome? Search faster and stay in the know with Internet Explorer.
That's the message I get when I go to bing.com, or search via chrome using bing as default search. Is bing trolling or has internet explorer become faster during these times? Please give me some stats..
By the way an added incentive to use bing might also lie in the bing rewards program. 1 points for two searches, and 525 credit for $5 amazon gift card or starbucks card. Not bad? Well, here is a referral...http://binged.it/1pGdHhD
Here are some nice things Amazon has to offer...
1. Free Amazon prime to students:
Link: http://amzn.to/VQpPPk
If you have .edu account, then you can join prime for free.
2. Cloud space! 5 GB free!
I have 40 GB dropbox and 13 GB sugarsync (and Google drive etc). But 5GB in cloud for free is not bad!
3. Amazon cloud player... it has been there for long now!
Your music in Cloud!
You can download the software and scan the mp3, and upload to the cloud. This is a nice feature. Plus it is yours to play, and download later. Did you try this?
There are other nice things too... that is for next time sometimes!

Not good!
Yes, free as in free beer! The cloud-based application-Box is giving away 50 GB for installing box on your android. Referral is dead! But this offer ends on Mar 23rd. So, if you are interested, go ahead!
When it comes to internet surfing, speed becomes one of the critical component. No doubt, chrome is very fast! However, I still think that Opera is the king of the Browsers!
Finally, I got the new layout released into my account.
I like this new layout except for the fact that they have taken my most favorite button under the "account" section. Guess which one is it? Yep: LOGOUT! The compelling new feature of this one are the reinforcement of sending messages... I call it Facebook Email. Similarly, Facebook chat is more handy. Notification was kinda eyesore... It can be more irritating now if they put red stuff to highlight it. Search is there... (ohh at the top!) but it is still not the big thing in facebook... YET. :P I really appreciate Facebook for not putting "my-space/yahoo" kind of irritating ads and also for not tuning personal ads (see this one on how they really can).
Just for a moment, I think it was.
My history shows that I was actually redirected to hacked page...
I landed on the page with various offers...
while trying to get out of the page I had another prompt:
Are you sure you want to navigate away from this page?
Would you like more information? Call 1-877-215-0994
Press OK to continue, or Cancel to stay on the current page
Your Browser is one of your identity card when you are online.
Information Entropy is a quantity depicting the information contained in the given data. Higher the multiplicity, higher the Entropy, better you are hidden in the population. The case is reverse if you want to stand out in the mass.
See some basics of Information Entropy in wikipedia here...
Currently, we estimate that your browser has a fingerprint that conveysat least 18.21 bits of identifying information.
Now, relate it to the personally identifiable info that we put online.
This is quite striking and revealing on how the information we put online makes us more and more uniquely available to the web. I wonder what my online model would look like as stored in Google or Amazon. Google Model: Given his online presence, what could be his next online purchase? Amazon Model: Given his book browsing histories and buying habits, what could be his next online purchase?
No wonder how serving ads is going to be personally tuned in the near future (For instance, in the movie iROBOT, as Will Smith enters the supermarket, the billboard sign changes which was already personalized for him). That should not be too far :)
Side note:
I dont think that Facebook has deployed this strategy yet. It still displays yahoo/hotmail style fixed ads. Given all the info available with Facebook, it could be huge!!! They should work on it instead of playing with privacy policy or similar controversial items.
I noticed that Google documents now allow a new feature of uploading the files into their cloud to access it later. Moreover, it can also be converted into open-office format.
This feature is handy because I used to send the required documents to myself by Email in previous cases. This way, I do not have to. Moreover, I can place them in folders. Easy!
When I say computer, what is the first thing that comes into your mind?
That answer defines today's Tech-world.
Many people need computers to browse. This is web 2.0 already!
Although there are people needing super fast computer for some serious research, most of the consumer, who are buying PC, are using it to browsing the world wide web. This is one of the fundamental change in the approach to computer. There is clearly heavy weight to browsing to computing. Google has understood it and thus has come up with the idea of the Google Chrome OS. The extension to it's web use is provided by the fact that most of the stuffs one needs for offline browsing is already there: by Google (provided you sync it when you go online).
Check your Email by using Gmail, prepare slides for presentation by Google Docs, Mark your calendar by using Google Calendar, Chat with friends using Google Chat, Google Voice, G Messenger, Upload your pics by using Picasa (Google Picasa)... All through Google Chrome browser in Google Chrome OS.
Did I hear a lot of Google up there? and you tell me that this is not monopoly.
However, besides being open source, I have a confusion...
How is this different than Microsoft going open-source? (I know, I know: just throwing out!) Does this answer the then concerns of monopoly by Internet Explorer/ Microsoft OS?
I know, the web products such as hotmail, yahoo, facebook etc are not owned by Google and can be browsed by using Google Chrome browser in Google Chrome OS.
I noticed it from the bottom curve of the chrome.
I think this is one of the nice way to get attention to new feature.
I have to admit that even though I loved Firefox the most, I love the speed that Chrome brings to to browsing. It might be the 20 ad-ons I have been using on FF and none in Chrome.
Promoting the third should not hurt much.
:)
I have been playing with Ubuntu for a while now. One of the integral and important part of the OS is web browser. By default one can find the Firefox in the ubuntu package. However, the bundled browser is little older. While this is understandable in terms of stability, it does not make sense if it had been out there for long time in the market. So, I tried few things: 1. Try Google Chrome: If you want to get geek by inserting the code... in the terminal; you can do it. See more here... http://www.ubuntugeek.com/how-to-install-chromium-google-chrome-in-ubuntu-using-deb-package.html
Since it is still in the development mode, it is known as chromium. It is worth testing! Did you note the version? ;)
2. Try Latest version of the Firefox (I had Firefox 3.0.14 while 3.5.x was fashion). To install the latest version of FF out of the repo; do the following:
On the quick search box: type: Firefox (I wanted 3.5 in my case... it could be 4.0 if it is out in there)
Mark the latest version for your installation.
Apply change; and Bingo!!!
It is code named Shiretoko. It is not supported by ubuntu dev community yet. But that is not a big deal! It should be better than feeling old rusty and out of fashion. Have fun!
PS: If you want your flash be enabled in Google Chrome: add... --enable-plugins.
This is a view of the application launcher properties.
What makes Chrome attractive is its speed and sleek look.
The Chrome for Windows has picked up its grab of users (and counting...), the reason is very obvious.
Today, I was playing with the Google Chrome on Ubuntu , and eventually got the "beta" version installed (Named Chromium). Even though it is named as "unstable-Chrome", It is pretty much stable for me, for now.
I added --enable-plugins
to the command line and Bingo! it is youtube playable. Oh well, the bing search just crashed!
... the youtube too!
hitting F5 key reloaded it and is now OK. (Ha ha what a live reporting!)
Few crashes are OK ;) that is what beta is supposed to do!
Now I am going to have some fun...
