Making Your Blog Mobile Friendly

Just found out how to make the blog mobile friendly:

Since the number of smartphone users are increasing (and will keep increasing) I was looking forward to make the contents available in more user friendly manner.

There are harder way to do it. However, easy one is done via reader option.

Nepali Fonts for Android displays Box... SOLVED!

In facebook or in nepali blogs, friends post messages in Nepali Dev-nagarik script (unicode?). However, because I do not have the proper fonts they are displayed as boxes...
I looked around for solving the problem. no solutions found yet.
Let me give you the hint: the first result in Google: 24duniya just has the keyword traps without a solution. I wonder if this post will be picked up in search engine query which has no solution listed yet.

Anyone out there who knows the solution?

For nepali blogs, opening in opera mini browser configuring it with the bitmap font for complex scripts(enabled) works .

Type about:config in the opera mini addressbar
The last option on that page is bitmap font for complex scripts... enable it
 That's it!

Phone, Internet, VOIP and Nepal Telecom Authority

This week Google is busy unleashing its powerful feature of Google Phone.
On the same week we had news of Telecommunication Authority of Nepal ceasing 5-10 (!!) websites for allowing people to talk via internet {news}.
This seems retroactively interesting.
Let me say the T-world to them: Technology!!!

While Forward moving companies like Google wants to put internet on the front, pushing what can be done with the technological developments, NTA wants to grab it back. Just imagine, the phone will be dead in coming few years as we will all have the (tax-paid) wifi on the cities and villages with people carrying small PDAs.  VOIP is already there. If people talk more, they will definitely increase the TAX revenue; one way or another.
Please do not be the reason setting people back in technology.

Android apps are boundless. One can jump into it and start developing apps for fun.

Google's App Inventor for Androids

I have applied for Google's app inventor lab. I hope that they will approve it.
I would love to learn to make apps for my new Androids. I have chosen android OS over iOS or RIM by BB.

Another Story from Airport

After reading my airport story, an offline friend told me his friend's story. BTW this is international one.

Raggy and Saggy met on the airport and became friend as they were seated next to each other in long inter-continental flight. They were surprised to find that they actually lived very nearby. It was nice and smooth flight; especially comforting to find someone from your place.

As they were coming out of the airport,  two people came, welcomed and greeted them, shook hands and took their luggages. Thinking that they must be the friends of the other, both of them allowed their luggages to be picked up.
The guys then took the luggages into a car and were ready to go. At the moment they both appreciated each other for calling  nice friends to pick up. Both said, "well I thought they were your friends".
Then they realized that they were not the friends of neither!!!
Hilarity ensues!

Free for all @ Airport

I am sharing some interesting memory from during my last visit to Nepal.
I was coming out of the airport  with a friend and found that two unknown people had come to receive me inside the luggage claim compartment. They behaved very friendly and wanted to carry our stuff. Ohh how nice of them! Well, I just had a suit case and thanked them. Thanks but no thanks!
Nope, they were determined to help us. Well, after few pull, I said, "well, I donot have any money. So, do not expect anything that you will be getting". They were fine with that. That made it more interesting. I had not seen anyone who could carry my luggage for free!
We kept on insisting that the luggage were light and we could do it ourselves by pushing the cart. They behaved as if they were siblings separated at birth. Out of irritation, I said, OK! But warned them that I really do not have spare money to give them as my brother was coming to pick me up. The reply was how is that possible that a person coming from aboard does not have some dollar money. That was interesting question to myself because I had been using plastic money all over!!!

I looked into my purse and they also grabbed the opportunity to have a peek into it. Incidently, they saw $20 greenery! "That should be enough", they said, "well, that will do".

PS: as my post was backlogged, Basant G also published his feelings. I thought it is time for this guy to come out. Basant G's post explains what happens after you come out. I will also share my experience in another post.

Love Birds at the Check Out...

Yes, your typical grocery day. Sometimes it happens that you are in a hurry and lined up for check out.  People in front of you, do not care and just take their time. Relativity at play !!!! I am going to tell you a story of a couple at the checkout in a store. Oh, probably you have come across many such incidents where check out happens to be creepy.

What can delay the check out?

• Romantic Couple 
• fight with each other for who wants to pay
• Boy swipes Credit card
• after boy swipes, he needs to authorize the transaction
• starts to sign with super slow speed
• keeps making her figure? and finally a big heart ?
• ...

Just wrong person and wrong time!

Hey, do not get me wrong, this is part of education. There are so many mathematical formula being formulated to minimize the check out time. My suggestion is lovely couple meter should be added to the formula :P

Dautari.org is organizing third world wide e-bela for Nepali Bloggers.


The First Bhela: http://www.dautari.org/2009/08/blog-post.html  and Second Bhela: http://www.dautari.org/2010/01/blog-post_21.html was held on the same place.


During previous bhela, chat box was somehow full (although Nepalean G had paid) and only allowed 25 people. Archana G and some other had to log off the box to let in other people. I am hoping that this time it will be taken care beforehand.


Although the announcement of bhela was called on a short notice, It is fun to meet the great writers and new and old Nepali blogger friends spread around the world. 


Please let the organizers know your plan as it will make them easy to plan ahead.

Google's Wave: came as tsunami... gone like ?

Google's much hyped wave has failed!
In the beginning, it was restricted to invited people... creating natural invitation pressure pool to pull people. Later, once people joined, people started to realize that it was not going to be anything like facebook killer or so. The projected height of the wave just proved to be a hype.
Finally,
In the recent blog post in Google Blog, they are saying that they will close it down by the end of the year.
