Upgrading 37,376 chips of a Super Computer: Jaguar

Jaguar has been named the top supercomputer.

Well, Jaguar [ AMD six-core chips 2.6 gigahertz] (http://www.nccs.gov/computing-resources/jaguar/) has 255,584 processing cores. Think of replacing all the chips on it after watching the video.

Well, without listening to my blah... blah get straight into the "Complete Guide to Google Wave" by Gina Trapani with Adam Pash. This is a preview edition where one can get some refreshing fresh dive into the world of wave.

Yahoo Site Explorer gets makeover: noticed one error for Blogger

Yahoo Site Explorer [http://webloggerdai.blogspot.com/2009/02/yahoo-site-explorer.html] is cool. I have to say that it is not yet a challenge to the google analytics or G- webmaster tools. However, it is good to have one more crawler report for convenience. Who knows engineers at YDN may be working day+night to get it more impressive.

However, I have noticed that there is a problem with authentication:
The code as given does not work in blogger HTML:

When inserted the authentication code:
<META name="y_key" content="076yhjk3med 93i" > (content changed for privacy reason) does not work in Blogger.
It needs to be added with a forward slash:
<META name="y_key" content="076yhjk3med 93i" />

The Error message:
We were unable to save your template
Please correct the error below, and submit your template again.
Your template could not be parsed as it is not well-formed. Please make sure all XML elements are closed properly.
XML error message: The element type "META" must be terminated by the matching end-tag "".

Black Friday Shopping: Tips

The Black Friday shopping hype is about to begin.
I am jotting down some tips for early birds.
  • Do not rush for early morning Deals on Friday: Sleep well. You will loose nothing.  I was up one morning (two years ago) as early as 2 AM to get into the line of Black Friday shopping in front of Best Buy (I have a post from last year showing the sleeping line here...).
  • Check for On line Deals: On line deal sounds much more comfy from your computer at home than the cold morning rush. There are a lot of deal sites.
  • Remember, there will be After sales events: as they still have to do business after Black Friday.
  • Eat drink and be merry!: Recent studies show that people who eat traditional dishes tend not to fall into the hype of deal [Sci.Ame...]. Good for them!
Want to add some more?
Please do!

However, having said that. I would recommend going early morning once. It is a nice experience to see if not to buy [It is exciting experience anyway :P].

Happy Thanksgiving!!!

BBC offered ad in their news network. No problem!
Today I was surprised to see the pop up.

Google Chrome OS: A New Paradigm

When I say computer, what is the first thing that comes into your mind?

That answer defines today's Tech-world.
Many people need computers to browse. This is web 2.0 already!

Although there are people needing super fast computer for some serious research, most of the consumer, who are buying PC, are using it to browsing the world wide web. This is one of the fundamental change in the approach to computer. There is clearly heavy weight to browsing to computing. Google has understood it and thus has come up with the idea of the Google Chrome OS. The extension to it's web use is provided by the fact that most of the stuffs one needs for offline browsing is already there: by Google (provided you sync it when you go online).

Check your Email by using Gmail, prepare slides for presentation by Google Docs, Mark your calendar by using Google Calendar, Chat with friends using Google Chat, Google Voice, G Messenger, Upload your pics by using Picasa (Google Picasa)... All through Google Chrome browser in Google Chrome OS.

Did I hear a lot of Google up there? and you tell me that this is not monopoly.

However, besides being open source, I have a confusion...
How is this different than Microsoft going open-source? (I know, I know: just throwing out!) Does this answer the then concerns of monopoly by Internet Explorer/ Microsoft OS?

I know, the web products such as hotmail, yahoo, facebook etc are not owned by Google and can be browsed by using Google Chrome browser in Google Chrome OS.

Why Cell Phone is Expensive in USA?

One of the striking question to international student as well as resident american people in USA might be the question posted in the title:
Why Cell Phone is Expensive in USA?
India, for example has very very cheap price on cell phone services. Sujan jee had a nice post on this topic http://sujanacharya.blogspot.com/2009/11/blog-post.html .

For the people living aboard, calling home by calling card is another painful story. That can be written in different post. However, the question on why cell phone is expensive in USA had been ringing in my head for long time.
My first had approach was the following:
  • USA is a big country
  • needs a lot of resources to relay calls
  • Making average cost per call go high
However, since there are many big service providers such as AT&T, Verizon, T-mobile, Sprint etc. one would expect fierce price war. Where is the price war???

Below is the NY times article which discusses why not?
http://www.nytimes.com/2009/11/15/business/15price.html?_r=1

Well, one of the factor is consumer itself.

Incompatible Extension in Ubuntu: Firefox3.5.x

This is strange incompatibility:

It has done nothing to cause instability but is prompted now and then (whenever I open new window) to irritate me.

The 11/3 Project: Takeback your appendix

Glenn Beck has been an interesting character in the news media. Being a media person himself, he has been successful in drawing much attention.
In this clip John Stewart , a comedian from Daily Show, mocks the 11/3 program. If you were aware of Glenn Beck style you will find it interesting presentation.

I am taking it as a light fun!

This is little controversial matter of discussions. People are on both sides of the discussions supporting/not supporting Glenn Beck.  This is evident from the fact that his wiki page has been locked.

Blogger in Draft: Error messages

I love blogger in draft.
see related one here...
http://buzz.blogger.com/2008/04/blog-list-scheduled-post-publishing-on.html
With the updated blogger dashboard, now schedule feature is possible. But, I have been sticking to it. Clinging is easy!
;)
Now I am getting these kind of error messages... every time I try to go to blogger in draft and try to compose post...
I do not like the location feature of blogger anyway.

Why Google?
Blogger is one of Google's product and before recent upgrades, I thought it was abandoned product. With the updated one, is it still being worked for improvements?

at&t: wake up, it is Day Light Savings already

This is my second year with at&t service.
Let me tell you besides multiple dropped calls, when it comes to the day-light savings time at&t is a big FAIL!
I remember that I had written similar story last year...
http://ajabgajab.blogspot.com/2008/11/day-light-savings-what-time-is-it-now.html

Last year, the clock was not re-set till 2/3PM.
The improvement is that the cell is updated at around 11/12 PM. Well, at&t you better update your tower or system at 2AM.
