How to install Preeti font in Ubuntu Linux

How to install Preeti font in Ubuntu Linux

I will tell you what I did:
I did read ...
http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Font-FAQ#How_do_I_add_fonts_system_wide
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Fonts#Installing%20new%20fonts
and a lot of other junk links when I googled for it.

Here is "to the point" description:
  1. become a super user.  >su
  2. Got preeti font from http://ncthakur.itgo.com/preeti.zip you can find preeti.ttf from anywhere else.
  3. keep preeti font in the desktop

  4. go to /etc/fonts/
  5. copy the contents of the

fonts.conf (Do not modify that file)
  6. save the content as

    local.conf in Desktop
  7. because local.conf was not available in my case, (even if it is available ) just add line

<dir>/usr/local/share/myfonts</dir> in appropriate place near top there are <dir> tags you can see.
  8. copy the file to the location

    /etc/fonts/
    >> cp local.conf /etc/fonts
  9.  create a folder in /usr/local/share as myfonts
  10. copy preeeti to the folder >>cp preeti.TTF /usr/local/share/myfonts
  11. do this >>fc-cache /usr/local/share/myfonts/
  12. Good to go!

Too close to loose!!!

How do you kill some time in transition?

I tried the battleship game in Ubuntu.

Well, I was so so close... See the pic.
All but two dots, every place but two more dots are covered in the playing field.
I lost! but, I think that was interesting match with computer.
Just to trick it, I placed everything clustered at single place. The random shot kept searching everywhere but not the place nearby.

Have you played it so close? (so close to winning...)

Flooded with ideas

Sometimes it is hard to conceive ideas while the other time you are flooded with ideas. Both cases are troublesome.
Once in my Exam at MSc in Nepal, that was my last exam of the year, I was reading the question paper. I never used to read question from top to bottom at first sight. I don't know why I just wanted to try it because it was my last exam and in other I had done very good if not excellent.
I looked into the questions and as I looked into them, the ideas of how to do them started right away!
I started to think: Yes... I can do this this is like this+this and that and similarly, for all of them. Imagine having seen all questions and the ideas already playing in your mind: how to write?
Because I had to write and to write I needed little noise. The noise of idea simply overwhelmed me and I was flooded! I was swept away and after that moment my processor just stopped working. I wanted to write but I could not. A single letter. My mind had become a place like hell. I then felt at the very moment my deep inside saying "what is wrong with you?" while the feeling that I was "bleeped".
I stopped, took deep breath and laid aside. My friends noticed, but what else? I requested water and then after drinking some tried to chill. I walked outside the hall a little bit again took water but believe me it was really hard to calm down the agitated mind.
The very first feeling of being so nervous in my life nearly swept me away. I had choice to cancel the paper and walk away: But I decided to go with it. I passed as satisfactory but flooding was witnessed and I was in trauma for one month after that exam.

Webloggerdai.blogspot.com: harmful site or hacked ???

I noticed that my another tech hobby blog (some said copy and paste blog: ha ha!) was reported as an attack site. So that I do not have to keep separate records of what I learned from experience of Ubuntu and other tricks, I am keeping that site. But, unfortunately, it has to go down now.

It is quite interesting because it has no script other than Chitika and Project wonderful (and Google adsense by default ;)) Moreover the source looks very clean.

The pattern looks familiar because this one (Time!) has been noticed to be redirecting to some stupid ringtone sites (if page impressions >200/per day ?). I did ask for some suggestions from other friends and they also could not see it.

Currently, I am stopping the site at 3000ms == 3 sec (window.stop). So, it stops everything after 3 seconds of loading the last widget. But that is not permanent solution.

I do not understand what is going on...
Makes me feel bad.

Detailed Report:
http://www.google.com/safebrowsing/diagnostic?site=http://webloggerdai.blogspot.com/&hl=en

I have requested for review using the google webmaster tool (BTW it is amazing: need to learn how to add site map in blogger though), am waiting for what they will say: till then webloggerdai.blogspot.com is closed!!!

"JOB" top ten search key word in Google

Yes, it is evident that some morons did screw up the world economy. The job market in US has been termed as the worst in ages.
I am sure that until I come up with some nice principle of fixation for econodynamics, it is going to steep down. (ha ha).

The news is about the search engine hits for key words for 2008. I just learnt that one of the top 10 keyword was "job".

It is always good to learn about the trends that the people are hitting key board for in google.
So, you may find this page very very useful:

Indian Idol 4: Watch online Full!

Prashant was the Indian Idol 3. I did support him because of his nice voice and some mixed feelings towards him.

This year, I kinda impressed with Bhanu Pratap Singh. His voice, and the tendency to never give up has impressed me.
You can watch the Indian Idol 4 online. I will try to post the links as I see it. I am doing this only because the sify is really doing ridiculous thing with online posting. Just watch this video and realize that they want to torture at the end.

10 things to realize with Gmail

Today, I came across a nice article in Lifehacker.
I like lifehacker because it gives nice tips and tricks and sometimes the information can be really vital.
The article I am talking about is on Gmail: http://lifehacker.com/5103016/top-10-things-you-forgot-gmail-can-do

I knew some of them but few are completely new to me.

Some of the things are widely known and just are some kinda reviews but in anyway, they are useful.
For the convenience, It would be really nice if we could archive all the mail in Gmail (Or if they are going to sent them as paper: bad joke).
I like video/chat feature but it is not available for linux (period). Gmail Lab is also interesting.

Moreover, I like the filter feature which is really nice in Gmail. If you are obsessed with having same kinda email, just filter them and read it later. I kinda feel bad when I have 20 Emails as unread in main panel of inbox. Lifehacker: I am surprised that it did not came with in your "ten"...

Money with blog: Bad?

One question has been revolving in my mind:
Paid blogging: Bad?
Or
Coded Referral: Good?

It depends upon your judgement bar. I am not going to blame anyone of his/her view on it. Some people take strong take on this issue. Some semi-pros think in different ways.
My view on money making blog is different.
If you are irritated with money making business with blog, just make it ad free blog!
Who cares?
I am sure that the milk you are testing may be from different origin but let me tell you: you can run but you can not hide.

Although the chitika advertisement above has very low CTR, I am keeping it. So I am doing the same for project wonderful (even if I get one cent per day for that much of space). It is just kinda fun. let me tell you: I am supporting a child's education fund in Nepal from the revenues from this blog. What are you up to?
Let me show how you can help in other way...

Wireless Discounts through your company: Are You aware?

I just learnt that at&t is giving some percent discounts for SUNY employees.
It would be 20% for employees and 5% for students (?).
I am not aware of T-mobile and Verizon or similar other services.
All you have to do is enroll into their program. I do not know if your wireless carrier has some kinda agreement with your employer company. In my case it works.
Why work email? This is exact answer from their page:
We need your work/school email address to determine if you are affiliated with an organization that qualifies for additional savings. ATT has business agreements with thousands of corporations, government agencies and educational institutions to offer wireless products to their employees and families at a significant discount.

Well, I was not aware of such discounts. One of my friend is getting 20% because he claimed that he was TA and he is paying the GSEU fee for communication workers of america. I do the same, let me see how it works.
If you were not aware of such discounts through at&t, please go to
att.com/wirelessdiscounts or search for discounts. After you are verified you can get discount.

Type in Nepali : Unicode Nepali Converter

My Typing khubility in Nepali is not good. That's why I am impressed with the friends who do write in Devanagari scripts in various blogs.
It is quite easy and straight-forward to read and understand in the familiar language. The language which you learned from the very beginning and the one in which you think and dream about.

Update: This post shows how to type Unicode Nepali in Browser.

I was aware of this site and its existence but I was kinda reluctant to use it, you know this is one more link : not a lot of job. But, in anyway, those who are interested to write in Nepali can go to this link...http://www.unicodenepali.com/
and go to the typing page in here... http://www.unicodenepali.com/v3/index.html
I kinda like it because it is Nepali Unicode.
You know the situation of writings when we write in nepalinglish (nepali+english): called so because people write in english script to mean things in Nepali.
I think it would be better for them (including me) to just go there, type it and copy +paste!
OK, this is my first try...
युनिकोड नेपाली मा लेख्नु को मज्जा नै बेग्लाई हुन्छ!
 (of course beglai !)
:)
