Cuil: Another Google?

Read it as "cool", has been founded by the people who worked on Google.
http://www.cuil.com/ is a new search engine in the market.
The big question ahead is will it really survive?

I liked the philosophy...
"Cuil analyzes the Web, not its users".

Unlike Google, Cuil's privacy policy states that it does not store records of users’ search activity or IP addresses[wikipedia].

Well, we already have many search engines out there, but none had stood as rival to Giant Google. As a new kid on the block, everyone will be interested on it's behaviors.

They have tried to convince people in new ways. "We not only present the results on the basis of popularity index but also try to analyze the links that may be useful to you."

Against the new Vice President of Nepal: Mr Parmanand Jha

The political scenario in Nepal is like a drama. There are a lot of things to be seen and to be reported. If anyone wants to practice journalism, one can go there. Even script writers can find a lot of nice scenes. The reports from Nepal shows interesting activities.
People are facing the difficulties in minimum daily activities while the whole political scenario points that is is not going to get better. At least not so soon!
Everyone smells a rat that this is a campaign against the "New Nepal" envisioned by Nepali people. The leaderless and sense-less mobs have started to take out any kind of movement and take the situation in hand. These political pseudo centers of powers are used for small and short term chaos.

We still need to boil down and settle, and it will not be easy in these cases like it was in previous case (2006).
Anyways, besides the fact that people have difficulties in getting oil for fuel and other basic needs (which should have been the primary focus); Nepal is now revolving in new cases: everyday.
The latest one started when the new Vice president Mr. Parmanand Jha took the oath in Hindi. Notably he started with a word in Nepali and got into hindi. There was provision that he could have taken oath in his native tongue which is maithili. Mind that hindi is not the official language of Nepal. Why did he do so? "Because it is spoken by 200000 people of Nepal".
Well, Nepali is spoken by 2500000+ people!
So, instead of speaking for less than 8% of the people of Nepal, it would have been better if he could have taken the oath in Nepali for 100%. Because he is not meant for 8%. That clearly means that he wanted trouble. At least he gets some name thrown out here and there. (This is not best way to get the names out in market).

Finally, there are movements.

If you want to sign petition against him:
http://www.sajhachautari.com/phpPETITION/index.php

and
http://www.petitiononline.com/nhc111/petition.html

This is how the balls keep rolling in Nepal.
Nepal: A different political dynamics than the rest of the world!

Wow! My Blog's Page Rank is down to Zero !!

Recently, I was jumping around with the boost in Alexa rank.
Today, I realized that my PR has gone down to zero!

I had been reading and hearing about the sinking page rank of various bloggers due to paid postings. Now, I am one of them. My PR was 3 as soon as I started, after a year into blogspot, now it is down to zero.

I had commented about such sinking possibilities in elsewhere in comment section. I don't know what impacts will be out there, it never matters for me as it is not my profession. It is a part of my hobby!

See my popularity index: here
The famous "How much" index gives me :

How Much Is Your Blog Worth?

Your blog, ajabgajab.blogspot.com/, is worth $23,146.14

Different scales out there!

I will keep posting, lets see how far does it go...

Monarchy Online: QueenRania on You tube

We have witnessed the recent fall down of the last Hindu king of the world from Nepal.
King Gyanendra will be named as the last king of the Shaha dynasty in Nepal. The geo-political situation of Nepal has emerged into a new situation which no one could have speculated before.
His only one comment was that he could not defend himself against all kind of "hate campaign" going around and was being spread around against him (as he said after being dismissed on his public adress as a Nepali citizen). He could not defend himself(?) ; was that the major reason for the whole empire to fall down?

Meanwhile, I stumbled across the news of another monarchy: Jordan's Queen Rania

She has come up with a great challenge in front of her: "break it down!!!"
It is more than "was against terror" because terrorists have no religion.
Look at this video: strong and amazing!!!
Her channel is located at:

Periodicity in Chaos

I would like to assume that there will be chaotic behavior in nearly every evolving system. I would also like to speculate that the Chaos is actually the search for the stable point of the whole dynamics of the process. Sometimes, there are apparently more than one stable fixed points and thus the system will keep jumping between them. The agents of stabilization will tend to set in to the stable fixed point while the dynamic behavior will try to make it move to next fixed point. During the violent competition between the competing processes, we observe that everything is pretty random. Hence may not look pretty nice.
After the system settles and revolves around the fixed point, the pattern looks pretty nice. As we can see it in the following picture (from Wikipedia):
(I know it makes no sense// I don't mind: why there would be any tendency of recurrence in the system?)

The Bayesian Drug Design

When we become sick, we are (mostly) cured by the drugs. The drugs would have to go several stages of statistical test and have to be designed carefully.
The drugs are taken or prescribed on the basis of concurrent knowledge of the state of the body or the situation. Mostly it is the best guess or estimate. We have witnessed the side reactions of the drugs and sometimes completely undesired results because of the poor inference of the situation. Well prescribers do what they see the best, but the internal situation may not be exactly the same as speculated.
Basically, the drugs consist of best estimate of the chemicals which can have the best desired effects.

This afternoon, I came up with an idea of smart Drug Design. Think of some smart drugs which can sense the environment and release the chemicals according to the situation so that it will have minimum side effects on the body and will cure the body the best way.
(I know this needs some polishing, I would appreciate comments)

My Alexa rank!

Wow! over three months, I have jumped to above 150K!!!

One can download the improved Alexa toolbar for firefox:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/5362 (read the comments, they are interesting)

after reading the comments in there:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/reviews/display/5362

you can install the alexa sparky in FF3.
(I do not know, but as many said, it needs a serious look over.)

A nice tool for viewing how one is doing in Alexa is socialsparks:

Again, many believe that having ITK on blog can have negative effect on PR. (my went to zero from 3.)

One can also lookup in: alexa site directly.

So, You have UBUNTU ... huh?

In a conference hall, everyone is enjoying the talk.
There is a small click click sound pertaining in the hall.
After some talks, there is a break. Everyone rushes for the tea/coffee break.
I started my laptop and started connecting to the internet. The wifi was unsecured as provided by the hotel. I got it. I was connected and was browsing.
In the mean-time, I got the attention of few people. One of them asked: "So, you have Ubuntu.... huh?... I was trying to connect...
How come your Ubuntu in Dell Inspiron 6400 supports wireless internet but not in mine?"

Guess the answer...

My answer was...
"Well, I do have Ubuntu; but wireless internet is only available in vista. So, I run vista for it."
(I had tried to get the wireless straight in my system, but had to face a lot of trouble and is deprived of appropriate time and effort ... If you have links on drivers and all info, please leave a comment: My system is Dell Inspiron6400. The description of my notebook is here As you can see: Dell Wireless 1390 802.11b/g Mini Card (54Mbps)// not supported in Ubunty 7.04)

UPDATE(July19th,2008):
After AD commented and suggested, I upgraded it to Ubuntu 8.x. So, it works fine now!
Thanks!!!

Diffusion experiment

This is a rather clever diffusion experiment, courtesy Matthieu Latapy. If you have a website, you can participate-- you just need to click "spread it" below, enter your url, retrieve the code that will put the image you see below on your website.
FYI, the image you see is the diffusion path of the code, which should change as it spreads.

Yo maan ta Mero Nepali Ho

I was in Brazil for a week. At the first glance, I felt like being home. Just like Nepal. Later I realized that Brazil has gone more into progress than Nepal. I wrote about the differences in here.
However, after visiting the botanical garden in Sao Paulo; I felt that at least, we are rich in natural gifts too. We have never realized it; though.
The identity after visiting the third country other than country of (temporary) residence; I came to realize that my identity shines being in Nepali. Everyone in conference will remember, if not my presentation; that there was a Nepali guy who went into ocean for the first time; is not tired of speaking about the land variety of his country etc etc...
As people speak about Nepal, they believe (if not assume) that Nepal is hilly, very very hilly. Wait a minute, we have terai too. A very very flat region where the temperature is warm enough and the food grows more efficiently than anywhere else. Well, we have small, baby mountains too, just suitable for a quick hike. The top of which can be accessed within 45 min. They lie near the terai and are really beautiful in terms of flora and faunna.
Wherever I go, my heart is Nepali.

Report a fraud!

I came across a fraud attempt which appeared like paypal account update and was linked to some other location:
The site had many layers:
Index of /skins/jcc/www.paypal.com/www.paypal.com/paypal/cgi-bin/webscrcmd=_login-run/webscrcmd=_account-run

under the site:
http://vreau-site.net/skins/jcc/www.paypal.com/www.paypal.com
...
I can see how do they manage to do that!!!

I also learnt on how to Report a site:
http://www.google.com/support/firefox/bin/answer.py?answer=34799&topic=11815

From Brazil

Yes, this is my first ever entry to the southern hemisphere!!!
I am in Brazil for a week for a conference. I had written a little bit about my travel in Mirror, but could not arrange time to scratch here. Since the nature of the articles in these two blogs are entirely different.
Well, Brazil is (as I can see) same like Nepal. Except we do not have sea/ocean and beach. Oh some more things we donot have include but not limited are good roads/highways, cleanliness, plan for tourism, political stability and ..
OH MY GOD...
It now comes out as a different situation, we have not even dreamed of space... and they are on the space!
Hmm...
Brazil and Nepal are similar. Well at least in some aspects...
May be brazil was like Nepal back in 50's and some part of it may still have some relics. And, by chance, I saw some of them.
I am now convinced, after all, that Brazil is a lot different than Nepal. Why was I comparing these two countries???

“Web Content Piracy of an Internet Business”

Intellectual Property Rights (IPR)

According to Wikipedia, “intellectual property rights (IPR) are a bundle of exclusive rights over creations of the mind, both artistic and commercial. Copyright laws protect creative works such as books, movies, music, paintings, photographs, and software and gives the copyright holder exclusive right to control reproduction or adaptation of such works”.

Patents protect inventions and products. While different countries have different laws protecting IPR, the basic principle is that making use of someone else’s work product, including material that someone has created for their own web site, is illegal UNLESS the creator has given written permission for its use by others. Because of its membership in the World Trade Organization, Nepal may have undertaken obligations to protect the intellectual property rights of its citizens and should pass legislation to do so.

Web Picture and Content Piracy:

Recently, I had to face the challenge of web content piracy of my company web site. I hired a contract employee to maintain a mailing list of buyers in January, 2008. After 6 months, we found out that he provided our buyer mailing list, product pictures and web content to another rival company in Nepal. The rival company hosted the exact pictures and product description on their web site. They also wrote to our buyers that they would sell the same items at a cheaper price than my online price. Thanks to those loyal customers who informed me about this web piracy.

How to Protect Ourselves from Web Content Piracy:

Web content piracy is a crime. To minimize this risk, always hire a professional person. Make a legal agreement with your contract employees. If there is piracy, inform the media about it. Tell other companies about this unethical behavior that is also illegal in many countries.

Also inform the local Chamber of Commerce, the Better Business Bureau or other trade or business associations who want to maintain honest and ethical business practices and will discipline members who violate them.

This will definitely help to discourage other companies from engaging in web piracy, because they will loose their good reputation. Dishonest employees will fear legal action, since they have signed an agreement with their employer.
About Me & My Company:
Namaste !
I am Eksha Limbu the founder of Eksha Creations. I am working as a self-taught jewelry designer and producer from Nepal. I am also a “Platinum Power Seller” on ebay. Eksha Creations (EC) is registered in Virginia (USA) and Kathmandu (Nepal). Our company works with the artisan families from Tibet and Nepal who make beautiful beads and jewelry. These families are highly skilled and have been making handmade jewelry pieces for many generations. Their skills, however, are disappearing due to lack of opportunity. Ours is a small endeavor to give them that opportunity, so they can carry on and perfect their craft by having EC distribute these beautiful handmade art works to jewelry designers around the world and jewelry lovers. EC deals in products that meet high quality standards in accordance with socially responsible practices, and for which the artisans receive fair wages.
